I'm writing this book only because there are some things that weren't taught in church. Just to make sure you understand what I'm doing here, I'm writing what my interpretations of this book are. Nothing more. I'm not trying to convert anyone, but it would be neat if some saw what I see when reading the Bible. So many people have claimed that they live their life by this book. That it is this book that gives them their morals.
If I'm not understanding something in this book correctly, then make me aware of it. Nobody has been able to give me a straight answer when I ask a question about this book. So, if you find something I have wrote that is not correct, then correct me.
Most of the questions I have comes from the Old Testament. I learned, about a year ago, that there are some Christians that don't go by the Old Testament. They only go by the New Testament. This only confuses me, to be honest. The Old Testament is part of their religion and I don't understand how a Christian can do that. Without the Old Testament there would be no New Testament. The Old Testament explains the commandments. Without the Old Testament a person can't learn from or understand the New Testament.
The Bible is claimed to be the word of God. But as many people know, not all of the books of God are in the Bible. The Bible, the word of God, was edited by men. Why would God let man pick through his word? If there was a god, wouldn't he want all of his word known to the generations to come? How can a person today understand the word of God when they don't have his complete word? A person can't know what God wanted if his word has been edited and most of the books that were taken out of the Bible have been lost to us or destroyed.
Do you know how many versions of the Bible there is? There are over 80,000 different versions of the Bible. That's over 80,000 different versions of the word of God. Each one of those versions have something in them that the rest doesn't. How can a person teach the word of God when there are so many interpretations? You can't honestly say that you know what God wants from the book we have today.
Now, like I said before, I'm not trying to convert anyone. The things in this book are my thoughts, and mine alone. I'm doing this of my own accord. I'm not asking anyone to like what I have to say, but if you read this, please try to keep an open mind. Try to understand my view on this topic.
I'm using the King James version of the Bible for this book. It was the King James version that I used when I was a child. When I read the Bible, the whole book, I became an Agnostic. I was about 12 years old then. The more questions I asked about the Bible, the more I was told to have faith. When I was 16 years old, my faith was gone and so was my belief in a god of any kind. I could be wrong about there not being a god, but I have not seen the evidence there is a god.
I'm not going to quote the whole Bible. It would take too long. Besides, everyone already knows about the good parts of the Bible. Few know about the bad parts. Simply because they don't read the whole Bible. They only read what their preacher tells them to read during church service. I'm going to point out the part I find to be wrong. And when I say wrong, I mean morally wrong.
I'm also going to try to point out some of the contradictions of the Bible and the things that just don't add up or make sense. And there is a lot of things in the Bible that just doesn't make any sense. I know I'm not the only one that thinks this. Most of the Atheists that I've talked to, feel the same way. And they have read the Bible just as I have.
Now, I would like make one thing clear before you start reading this book. I don't have a problem with people that believe in a god. The only time I have problem with a person is when they discriminate another person and justify it through their religion. I don't like it and I never have liked it.

spelling and grammar need to be checked so maybe get a proof reader.

just two I spotted.
Please don't take this as too critical but you come across as a potential Christian rather than as a skeptical Atheist - it's a warning.
Some Christian apologists will see the weaknesses in your lines of argument and decide to engage you with a view to converting you back.
Have you gone to any Atheist group meetings in your area ?
I'm trying to be a nice as I can in this book. I'm not trying to make anyone mad.
ReplyDeleteAll feedback is welcome. Can't correct a mistake if I'm unaware of it.
I haven't been to any group. I don't know if there is one around me. Probably something I should check into.
Hi Tish - have a look at http://skepchick.org. It's a good place to start.
