Good people?

Why must I believe in a god to be a good person? Why must I pray for a person to show them I care? Do I really have to put my trust in something I can't be sure is real to show I can be trusted? Why do I have to belive in a life after I die to show people I care about what happens to them? I don't think I do. I don't think anyone does.
If you can't see that I care about someone, you're not paying attention. I show people I care by being there for them when they need me. Even if the only thing I can do for them is listen to them. I think being a good person is as simple as treating others the way you want them to treat you. I can show I care about this life by making the most I can from this one life I have. I don't have to trust a being that I can't prove is real in order for me to be trustworthy. I can show you that you can trust by doing what I say I'll do.
By saying I can't be trusted because I don't believe in your god would be me saying you can't be trusted because you believe in an insivible man in the sky that controls all. That you can't tell the difference between real and fiction. Of course, I wouldn't do that. I know that just because you believe something I don't doesn't mean you can't be trusted. It only means that we believe different things.
Our religious veiws shouldn't be something that we let control our lives. There is so much more to life than religion. We can do so much with our lives than debate our religions views. When I decide if I like a person, their religion doesn't have a part in making my choice. It's about what kind of person they are, not what god they do or don't believe in.
